Bureau of Standards commended for regional leadership in quality assurance
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) has been commended for its pivotal role in promoting quality, innovation and international competitiveness by Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator Aubyn Hill.
Speaking at the 14th BSJ National Quality Awards Ceremony and Banquet, held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston, January 30, he also praised the BSJ for its outstanding performance and leadership in quality assurance across the Caribbean region.
“Many of our agencies lead across the Caribbean. When companies come to the BSJ to have their stuff tested, they come here to look and see how we do it,” said Hill.
He reflected on Jamaica’s transformation over the past few decades, noting that the country has emerged as a leader in quality assurance.
“Jamaica does not just participate in the global marketplace. We innovate, we comply, and quite often these days we set the standard as we lead,” said Hill.
He pointed out that many regional agencies seek the expertise of BSJ for testing and accreditation, further solidifying Jamaica’s position as a leader in quality standards.
The minister also highlighted the BSJ’s pioneering efforts with the National Quality Awards, adding that “as other national standard bodies in the region work to match our progress, we in Jamaica must extend and brandish the lead that we have taken”.
“Tonight, we celebrate excellence and the unwavering commitment of Jamaican businesses to quality, ingenuity, innovation, and international competitiveness,” Hill said.
He highlighted the importance of not just participating in the global marketplace but leading it. “If you are not competing internationally, get there fast, and the BSJ is here at every step to help you get there fast,” stated Hill.
Minister Hill challenged all stakeholders to continue striving for excellence, urging them to keep a keen eye on the technical stuff.
With continued collaboration and innovation, the minister said Jamaica is poised to maintain its leadership role in quality assurance throughout the Caribbean.
He noted that the BSJ remains committed to supporting Jamaican businesses in their quest for excellence and international competitiveness.
