Woman charged after issuing threats to police
A woman who was seen in a video on social media hurling threats at the security forces following last week’s police killing of One Order gang leader Othniel “Thickman” Lobban has been arrested and charged.
She is 22-year-old Dhana Warren.
Her attorney, Rodain Richardson, confirmed on Tuesday that the police arrested and charged his client, under the Cybercrimes Act, with malicious communication and revealed that she will make her first appearance before a judge on February 4.
“The matter is what you call a sub judice and I will make no other comment beyond that and that it be greatly advised that before casting various aspersions on this particular young lady, that the matter be properly ventilated in the court of law and not in the court of public opinion,” Richardson said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer Tuesday evening.
Richardson pointed out that every person who is charged and brought before the courts is innocent until proven guilty, and that they have a right to legal representation.
In the video that has become viral, the woman stated that, “Onnu a go get it. All a di Babylon dem, make this be a threat. Onnu a go get it back.
“Spanish Town is going to be locked down. Mi nah talk wid no water inna mi mouth, no filter. Spanish Town is going to be chaos. You know why? Daddy One come een like a regular person, bro, a regular man. Di man jovial and kind. Him run joke with everybody. All down to the baby dem love di man. Oonu dead bredda. Dead bird,” she said.
Lobban was killed during an alleged confrontation with the security forces in the St Andrew South Police Division on the night of Wednesday, January 22.
News of his death sparked protests by residents of Tawes Meadows and other communities in Spanish Town. The protest saw people blocking roads and burning debris in the streets. Arsonists set fire to at least one building, a Courts furniture store bargain centre. Police vehicles were also damaged by angry supporters of the deceased.
Lobban was said to be a key figure in Jamaica’s criminal underworld with influence in several sections of the island, according to an Observer source.
“His violent nature and strategic influence made him a significant threat to law and order, with direct involvement in orchestrating multiple murders and maintaining control over several communities through fear and extortion,” the source said.
Due to the fact that tensions continue to build in Spanish Town and surrounding areas, a state of public emergency was declared in the St Catherine North Police Division on Tuesday.
