Relegation-threatened teams hunt breathing room in midweek JPL action
Chapelton Maroons, Harbour View and Dunbeholden FC will all be hoping for wins in today’s Jamaica Premier League (JPL) second-round fixtures as they seek to get to safety and away from the relegation zone.
Seven teams are separated by 16 points in the lower half of the table in what is shaping up to be a closely contested relegation battle.
Promoted team Racing United, in eighth place on 22 points, and former champions Harbour View in 12th on 16 points, both coming off wins, will meet in the second game of a double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, set to start at 6:30 pm.
In the first game, set to kick off at 4:00 pm, 10th-placed Chapelton Maroons on 20 points will face 13th-placed Dunbeholden FC, who are on 16 points.
In the other game scheduled for today, second-placed Montego Bay United and sixth-placed Waterhouse will face off at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Racing United will have momentum on their side after winning their last two games by an aggregate of 5-0 but will face a Harbour View team that scored four goals against Dunbeholden FC on Sunday, matching their total goal output for their previous 10 games.
Harbour View had won their first-round meeting 3-1 and with some addition to their team in the January transfer period, will be confident they can get back-to-back wins for the first time since September when they had defeated Montego Bay United and Molynes United by 2-1 scores.
Chapelton Maroons come into their game on the back of an impressive 3-0 win at Waterhouse on Sunday and face a Dunbeholden team that have won once in their last 13 games and have conceded 40 goals in their 20 matches, tied for the most with Vere United.
Both teams in action at the Montego Bay Sports Complex failed to score in their games played on Sunday. Montego Bay United played out a 0-0 draw against Portmore while Waterhouse stumbled badly at home losing 3-0 to Chapelton Maroons and both will be hoping to make amends.
