Businesses encouraged to sponsor Festival Queen contestants
Businesses can be a part of the upcoming Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition by sponsoring a contestant in their parish.
Sponsors will be among the key stakeholders who are expected to participate in the crowning of the parish queens selected to compete in the national finals.
The event, organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), forms part of the Emancipation and Independence celebrations.
“We are saying to community businesses and business operators to come on board and sponsor a girl,” coordinator of the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition Andrea McCurdy said.
She noted that contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 30. Additionally, they must be born in the parish they represent or have resided there for a period of not less than six months prior to the parish contest.
The coordinator is encouraging young women to participate in the competition, while highlighting the personal growth and development it offers.
“It teaches you valuable life skills and helps you discover more about yourself. Many persons come in shy and uncertain and through the process they learn to step out, to be bold. You learn to interface with other persons and it’s all part of your growth and development,” McCurdy said.
The deadline for the submission of applications is at midnight on March 14, 2025.
