Tajay Suckoo rides second winner
On Saturday, January 11, 2025, Tajay Suckoo became the first apprentice jockey from the 2024 Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) Jockeys’ Training Programme to ride two winners. He achieved this feat aboard Uncle Nub in the $750,000 Pump Up OTB Trophy.
Uncle Nub, trained by Victor Williams, won the Restricted Allowance IV contest by a head, beating
Equinox (Tevin Foster) in a thrilling finish. The race, which included native-bred five-year-old and upward (non-winners of three) and imported five-year-old and upward (non-winners of two), was run over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).
Uncle Nub broke off well, trailing Equinox from second place with Crucial Alexxya (Shane Richardson) racing back in third place.
As they approached the half-mile turn, Equinox picked up the pace, but Uncle Nub was up for the challenge. Turning for home on the outside, Uncle Nub continued to trail Equinox but made a final push to win on the line. Crucial Alexxya finishing third.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Suckoo, who is making a name for himself in the racing world. His first win came just a week prior, on January 4, 2025, aboard Rapida.
