Midnight ChiQ a success; now on to Summer ChiQ
Amped up from the recent staging of Midnight ChiQ on New Year’s Eve, Jermaine Brown, a director of Marquee Entertainment, the promoters of the annual series, says the event continues to provide an alternative to partygoers on a night that is known for the staging of multiple events.
“We decided to go ahead to ensure that there’s a space for people who never wanted to be [at the National Stadium for Freedom Street], and continue the level of execution and participation that we’ve had from sponsors and patrons since our first staging in 2016,” Brown told the Jamaica Observer.
The most recent staging of the event took place at Nethersole Place on Kingston waterfront.
Said Brown: “Kingston’s waterfront is an undervalued real estate that we believe is the right place to be on New Year’s Eve. With the partnership that we have with the UDC [Urban Development Corporation] and fireworks on the waterfront, the elements make for an awesome experience for patrons…Overall, the vibe was electric, it was charged with fun, food, opulence and it was a good look for the event. The turnout was good, and patrons seemed to have enjoyed themselves.”
The event is primed for growth this year, with the staging of Summer ChiQ in the summer.
DJ Spinn and Coppershot’s DJ Marc Chin alongside Cyclone were tasked to take patrons on a musical journey as they unleashed hit song after hit song.
Rising selector DJ Mindless also made an impression — a move that Brown said was strategic in providing a platform for up-and-coming DJs.
“DJ Mindless is a young DJ that we brought to the fore to add the youth element. We have to think of the next generation,” Brown reasoned.
