Apprentice rider Javier Sybble scores maiden win
Apprentice rider Javier Sybble celebrated his first career win on Saturday, January 4, 2025, when he guided Town Star to a thrilling victory in a maiden condition race for four-year-olds and upward over 7 furlongs at Caymanas Park.
Owned and trained by Donovan Plummer, Town Star, a four-year-old bay colt by Tapilu out of Starofthetown, produced a strong come-from-behind performance to win by a length and three-quarters in a time of 1:31.4 (25.3 x 50.4 x 1:18.0).
Initially, Town Star struggled to keep pace with the early leaders, D Bay Machine (Christopher Madeen),
Noble Sovereign (Roger Hewitt), and Pappie Don (Emelio McLean), and found himself at the rear of the six-horse field.
As the horses sorted themselves out racing down the backstretch, Town Star was still labouring at the back of the field, looking a beaten horse as the field approached the half-mile turn with Pappie Don upping the tempo on the front end.
However, approaching the distance, Town Star began to make his move, rounding horses and gaining momentum. Sybble seized the opportunity, producing his mount on the inside rails, and Town Star responded with a powerful finish to win easily.
Pappie Don finished second, with Linstead Market (Richard Henry) claiming third place.
