Taxi operator shot and injured in early morning attack
ST MARY, Jamaica – A taxi operator that plies the route from Oxford to Port Maria in St Mary was shot and injured in an early morning attack on Thursday while doing his routine pick-up.
According to the police, around 6:50 am the taxi operator was on the Free Hill main road, in the process of picking up his second passenger, when a lime green motor car drove up. A man exited and started firing at the taxi.
The driver sustained injuries, however he was able to drive himself to the Port Maria Police Station where he was assisted to the Port Maria Hospital. His injuries are said to be not life-threatening.
The two passengers were not injured in the incident.
Acting Superintendent Anthony Wallace told Observer Online that the police are investigating the incident and will continue patrolling that area.
“We want to reassure the residents that every effort is being made to ensure their safety,” he said.
