Suriname man accused of raping teen step-daughter remanded into custody
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (CMC) — The step-father of a 16-year-old Surinamese girl has been arrested and remanded into custody on rape charges against the teen after being on the run since November last year.
Surinamese police from the central region said that the man was arrested in Santo Boma on Tuesday. During his interrogation, he made a full confession, admitting that he had committed sexual acts with the girl on several occasions.
The police said that the teenager had filed a complaint against her step-father on November 18 last year, after being sexually abused on several occasions.
But officers say they were hampered in their investigations after the man fled into the interior.
Meanwhile, the police have issued a call for all victims of sexual crimes not to be afraid, but to report to the authorities.
“The police are ready to guide them with care and respect in this process,” the police said in a statement.
