Police impose curfew to curb gang activity in St Mary
ST MARY, Jamaica — Following an upsurge in crime and gang-related activity in the usually quiet community of Albion Mountain in St Mary, a curfew has been imposed until January 9.
“We have one reported case of arson, a 9 mm Ruger pistol firearm was recovered in December and there was a shooting incident which was not reported, along with other incidents which are gang-related,” Acting Superintendent of Police in charge of St Mary, Anthony Wallace told Observer Online in explaining the need for the curfew.
He urged residents to obey and comply with instructions of law enforcers who are on the ground.
“The operation will be conducted with full respect for human rights,” Wallace assured.
The curfew, which began on Tuesday, covers areas including a section of Top Mountain in the vicinity of Albion Mountain Square, Trinity Land main road, Cox Street main road and Roslyn Road. Curfew time is from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily.
