Blind community steals spotlight at Joyful Hearts Outreach Initiative
MEMBERS of the blind community shone brightly at the recent Joyful Hearts Outreach Initiative hosted by Member of Parliament for Clarendon South Eastern Pearnel Charles Jr.
The event, which was attended by scores of residents of the constituency, provided much-needed support to senior citizens, people with disabilities, and vulnerable families.
People from the blind community took centre stage with remarkable impromptu performances and demonstrations of their ability to identify the new Jamaican dollar bills using the new components that allow blind and visually impaired people to independently identify notes.
Their spirited antics and contributions followed an explosive praise and worship session that left attendees inspired and energised.
The day’s activities culminated with a vibrant mini-concert hosted by Reverend Jeffrey Dawkins and featuring talent including Leroy “Bunny” Anderson, Petashae Dyer, Sasheik Christie, Ivarene Tulloch, Sheri-Gaye Johnson, Errol Bartley, as well as the Longville Park Band performing to resounding applause from spirited patrons who were also excited to get in clocked to win one of the many prizes up for grabs.
Charles Jr expressed his gratitude to the many sponsors and organisers as he underscored his commitment to supporting all members of his constituency.
“This initiative is a testament to the strength and unity of our community. Today, we witnessed extraordinary talent and resilience from our senior citizens, vulnerable families, and persons with disability, especially some of our talented constituents who are blind and visually impaired.
“This has been a true inspiration to us all. Together, we will continue to ensure that everyone feels loved, supported, and included in building a brighter future for south east Clarendon,” said Charles Jr.
The Joyful Hearts Outreach Initiative is an attempt by Charles Jr to create inclusive opportunities and uplift the most vulnerable in his constituency.
He acknowledged the donations provided by several constituents and corporate partners including Juici Patties, Jamalco, Fun Fest, Food for the Poor, and CB Chicken.
