Lloyd Evans made a serious contribution to dancehall and reggae music-Grange
KINGSTON, Jamaica- Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange has described veteran musician Lloyd Evans as a “serious contributor to Jamaican music.”
Evans passed away on December 25, at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Grange in a statement reacting to Evans’s passing said, “Lloyd Evans was indeed a legendary figure in the Dancehall and Reggae music industry. A renowned producer, he played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of Jamaican music, helping to establish artistes such as Joseph Hill and Culture, Barrington Levy, Cocoa Tea, Tenor Saw, Frankie Paul and Super Cat.”
“He was also famous for the dances that he hosted at Grove Road,” Grange noted.
“Despite his accomplishments, Lloyd Evans remained a humble man and a friend to many. My condolences to his son David, his relatives, friends, and associates.”
Evans was the head of the music production house, Blue Mountain Music with headquarters at Grove Road in St Andrew.
