Lilliput Rovers take zone lead in St James FA/Sandals
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Lilliput Rovers took over the lead in Zone A of the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League after beating defending champions Granville United 3-0 at Spot Valley High on Sunday.
The win saw Lilliput Rovers improve to seven points, one more than former champions Reggae Youths, while Granville United, who were losing back-to-back games to start their defence sit at the foot of the tables, along with Bogue FC, both yet to earn a point.
Meanwhile, Montego Bay Boys Club scored their first win of the season, edging Norwood Strikers 1-0 at the UDC field, matching the win total of the last two seasons.
At Spot Valley, Keyanta Clarke scored his first goal of the season when he gave Lilliput Rovers the lead in the 30th minute before Rashard daCosta doubled the advantage in the 68th.
An own goal in the 73rd minute from the veteran Davian Thelwell sealed the deal for Lilliput Rovers, who are still unbeaten after three games.
At the UDC field, Junior Morgan’s 49th minute goal, turning in a corner from point blank range, gave Montego Bay Boys Club their first win of the season as they improved to four points and third place in Zone B, behind leaders Green Pond SC on nine points and Cambridge United on seven points.
Boys Club won just one game last season after losing all of their 12 games in the 2022-23 season.
It was a third straight loss for Norwood Strikers who returned to the league after sitting out last season and they have conceded seven goals while scoring just once.
