Green Pond, Reggae Youths perfect in St James/Sandals Major League
GREEN Pond SC and former champions Reggae Youths are still perfect after wins over Heights FC and Wadada United FC, respectively, in the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League.
Green Pond SC made it three straight wins on Friday, beating Heights FC 3-1 at the UDC Field to take over sole leadership of Zone B, after Cambridge FC were held to a 1-1 result by Flanker FC. The draw cut short Cambridge’s perfect start at two games.
On Saturday, Reggae Youths beat Wadada United FC 3-1 for back-to-back wins. They took over the lead in Zone A with six points and pushed Wadada United FC, who led going into the game, down to third place.
Garth Bromwell scored his third goal of the season when he gave Green Pond SC the lead after just three minutes, before Jerome Whynn doubled the score in the 49th minute.
Devoie Douglas also got his third goal of the season when he scored in the 60th minute to put the game out of the reach of Heights FC who got a consolation goal from Tareck Shurriah (80th).
Cambridge FC gave up a 1-0 lead and had to settle for a draw against hosts Flanker FC, who were sharing the points for a third-straight game.
Wade Daley gave Cambridge FC the lead in the 53rd minute but Massiah Clarke levelled for Flanker in the 70th.
On Saturday at the UDC Field, Shawn Cunningham of Reggae Youths opened the scoring in the 20th minute and Denardo Kerr made it 2-0 in the 50th with his second goal of the season.
Anthony Marks brought Wadada United back into the game when he scored in the 59th minute, halving the deficit before Javaine Barrett restored Reggae Youths’s two-goal lead when he scored in the 83rd.
