Mount Pleasant seek to avenge loss to Dunbeholden
LEADERS Mount Pleasant FA will be seeking to avenge their only loss of the Jamaica Premier League season today when they host Dunbeholden FC in the second game of a double-header set for Drax Hall, starting at 3:15 pm.
Mount Pleasant missed a late penalty against Dunbeholden, who finished the game with 10 men in a 3-2 loss on October 30 and will start favourites to make amends against the ninth-placed team that have won just one of their last nine games.
The leaders are on a purple patch and have won their last six games. They should get win number seven on the trot today as the competition’s top scorer Kimoni Bailey, with nine goals, Shaquille Bradford with six goals, and Rasheed Edwards and Daniel Green, both with five goals, lead the way.
Second-placed Montego Bay United (MBU) who are ahead of Arnett Gardens on goal difference, both on 31 points, host a revived Chapelton Maroons at Montego Bay Sports Complex, starting at 5:30 pm, and will hope to at least maintain their spot.
MBU had edged Chapelton in their first-round meeting but the promoted team has climbed out of the relegation zone, into eighth place, and are on a three-game unbeaten run.
Chapelton’s hopes will be high after they beat both Cavalier FC and Harbour View and came from a goal down to earn a draw against Arnett at Anthony Spaulding Complex last Sunday.
Chapelton has scored just 16 goals but will hope Leaunghn Williams, who leads the team with four goals, and Damari Deacon and Javel Ellis, both of whom have scored two goals each, will step up and deliver today.
MBU has one of the best defensive units in the competition and they will hope to be able to match whatever Chapelton will throw at them today. At the other end, Brian Brown, who has scored eight goals, Shaniel Thomas and Owayne Gordon will all seek to entertain the home crowd.
Arnett will hope to rebound against Racing United after they had played out a 1-1 draw in their first round and currently remain in the top three in the points tables.
Arnett will hope to rediscover the form that saw them win six games in a row but they’ve only won one of their last three games played, scoring just two goals.
In the first game of the day, Humble Lion and Vere Phoenix United will meet in a Clarendon derby, both desperately in need of a win but each experiencing a dip in form that sees them in relegation trouble.
Harbour View, who are in second to last place, will hope they can repeat their first-round 2-1 win over Molynes United who are coming off a 5-0 win over Vere last week.
