Madelyn’s Sunshine drops in class; eyes Security Department Trophy
MADELYN’S Sunshine, conditioned by Jason DaCosta, is poised to capitalise on her speed and pace in this afternoon’s $1.25-million Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) Security Department Trophy feature at Caymanas Park.
Although her record over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course is unremarkable, with no wins from four starts, she’s stepping down in class and is expected to dominate this Overnight Allowance field for three-year-olds and upward.
In her last outing at this level on August 3, 2024, Madelyn’s Sunshine secured a half-length victory over five and a half furlongs (1,100m), clocking 1:07.1 with Tevin Foster aboard. Since then, she’s struggled in higher classes, but her recent training suggests a return to form. On December 28, 2024 she impressively galloped 800m in 49.0 seconds.
Five-time champion jockey Trevor “Slicer” Simpson takes the reins, and with Madelyn’s Sunshine’s class and speed she’s well-placed to lead the field home.
Should Madelyn’s Sunshine falter, a trio of talented fillies — Joy Is Golden, Mrs Lyndhurst, and Mudshaft — are poised to seize the opportunity.
Joy Is Golden, trained by Patrick Lynch, boasts impressive form, having secured three wins from 13 starts last year. Notably, two of those victories came at today’s distance, with times of 59.4 and 58.4.
Mrs Lyndhurst, although yet to win at this level, has consistently performed well over the straight, clocking times under 1:00.0. Well-drawn at post seven, she’s expected to deliver a strong performance.
Mudshaft, a six-year-old American-bred mare, broke her maiden over today’s distance on December 14, 2024, winning by an impressive 8½ lengths in 58.4. Although stepping up in class, her recent victory suggests she’ll be a contender.
The race is positioned as the ninth and final event with a post time of 5:15 pm. The first race is at high noon.
