Bailey scores first goal of season as Aston Villa beat Leicester
Leon Bailey scored his first goal of the season to hand Aston Villa a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Leicester at home.
The Jamaican winger tapped home a cross from substitute Ian Maatsen in the 78th minute to clinch a hard-fought victory for The Villans.
Villa took the lead in the 58th minute through a well-hit shot by Ross Barkley from just outside the box. However, Stephy Mavididi equalised for Leicester in the 64th minute as he put in a rebound after a close-range Jamie Vardy shot was saved by Emiliano Martinez.
However, as it appeared that the visitors would snap their losing run, Bailey ran in the box to cleverly finish off a low cross from Maatsen.
It was well-needed goal for Bailey who has struggled for form this season after a stellar showing last campaign in which he scored 10 and added nine assists in the league.
Bailey wrote in a post to Instagram afterwards: “Needed that!! 2025 lets go! (Maatsen) said I’d score today and then he assist me, what a guy.”
