Strictly 2K honours Keiva, Chromatic and Kartel
From the 1990s into the 2010s dancer Keiva Di Diva appeared in several music videos, having worked with several of dancehall’s biggest names and even toured the world.
On Saturday night, at the latest staging of the retro party series Wray & Nephew Strictly the Best – The Best of the 2000s and 2010s at Mas Camp, Keiva Di Diva received her flowers.
Alongside dancehall veteran Vybz Kartel and the multi-award-winning sound Chromatic, they were honoured with commemorative plaques, a move by the organisers and Boom Energy drink, in recognition of their achievement as entertainers.
“I feel like crying, seeing that I was honoured while I’m alive, and especially for what I was honoured for. I think its well deserved and appreciated. This award shows me that the organisers are paying attention. I am super excited and grateful because my greatest fear was not to be honoured while I am alive,” Keiva Di Diva told the Jamaica Observer shortly after the presentation.
Dancing since she was a child, Keiva Di Diva has appeared in videos for songs by Elephant Man, Mr Vegas, Tanya Stephens, Voice Mail, and Mavado.
DJ Tonio (Shantonio) of the award-winning 19-year-old sound Chromatic, said it felt good being recognised for something that the team enjoys doing.
“It’s a good feeling to be recognised for the work that you’ve done over the years. A lot of times people put in the work and they are not recognised,” said DJ Tonio, who has been a member of Chromatic since 2015.
Vybz Kartel, the self-styled Worl’ Boss who has a string of hits unmatched by any of his contemporaries, thanked his fans for their loyal support through the years.
Prior to and following the presentation, patrons were treated to a smorgasbord of hit songs spanning various genres, among them dancehall, hip hop, R&B, reggae, pop, adult contemporary, and rock.
With MC JR in tow, Creep Chromatic dropped Coco by OT Genasis, A Milli and Hell Yea by Lil Wayne, and All I Do is Win by DJ Khaled to favourable response from patrons.
The Realest Song by Konshens, Life We Living by Vybz Kartel, Watch Yuh Friends by Jah Vinci, Doh by Serani and Bugle, Drunken Dance by Fambo, and Mad Instrument by Elephant Man all kept the party vibes flowing.
Coppershot’s Marc Chin with Cyclone ignited a musical blaze as they had patrons dancing to We Are Young by Fun, Owl City’s Fireflies, and Vanessa Carlton’s 2002 platinum-seller
A Thousand Miles.
Johnny Cool is always a beast on the musical wheels of steel, he took patrons to dancing school with Everybody Dance by RDX; Cha Cha Slide, Raging Bull and Hot Wuk by Mr Vegas; and Tip Pon Yuh Toe by Aidonia.
Co-organiser Chrome also put in a good set with songs by Vybz Kartel, Mr Vegas and Elephant Man among others. All this sent patrons scampering for space in the venue to demonstrate their dancing prowess.
Strictly 2K was indeed an event enjoy by many.
