Flippa Moggela scores iTunes hit in ‘comeback’
Formerly incarcerated US dancehall artiste Flippa Moggela recently went viral with his hit song Wah Gwan Bout Yah Man.
Produced by Flippa’s Flip Money Records and the very popular DJ Mac, the track was released from January 15, and has since been a street anthem.
Flippa Moggela, once referred to as Flippa Mafia during earlier times in his career, teamed up with DJ Mac — producer of several hits like Drift by Teejay and Haad (Fiesta) by Armanii — to create the fun, relatable and entertaining track.
Having been so well received by partygoers it was no surprise that it eventually hit on
iTunes.
Wah Gwan Bout Yah Man peaked at #10 on the US iTunes Reggae Singles Chart on December 18.
This signals the first time Flippa Moggela has scored a top 10 hit on iTunes since his release from prison two years ago after serving a nine-year sentence.
Born Andrew Davis in Kingston, he has been known as the Flossing King. His recent success coincides well with Flippa’s usual charismatic persona of living the high life.
Wah Gwan Bout Yah Man questions the current state of those who claim to be about that life but don’t seem to be able to maintain it due to lack of funds.
Flippa Moggela is enjoying the fruits of his labour and states emphatically: “It’s an honour. I am so grateful and thankful for the support I have been receiving, and I’m going to continue to put in the hard work!”
A music video was also shot for Wah Gwan Bout Yah Man with scenes both in the US and Jamaica. Flippa Moggela will be riding this momentum straight into the new year.
