WATCH: Two shops completely destroyed in Constant Spring Arcade fire
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Assistant Superintendent of the York Park Fire Station Courtney Thompson says two shops were completely destroyed during Monday morning’s fire at the Constant Spring Arcade in St Andrew.
Another shop was partially destroyed, according to Thompson. He was providing the report to Observer Online shortly after firefighters performed cooling down operations at the location.
Thompson said firefighters were alerted to the blaze approximately 8:05 am and dispatched four units.
“Immediately we would have dispatched Half Way Tree, Stony Hill and two units from York Park — based on the number of calls that we received and the severity of the arcade, we responded with four units. On arrival, the fire was confined to three shops used as snack centres. Fighting the fire, two of them would have completely destroyed and one partially destroyed,” Thompson said.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time but Thompson said investigators will carry out their duties in short order.
The Constant Spring Arcade is owned by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation.
