Green Pond, Cambridge notch wins in St James/Sandals Major League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Green Pond SC and Cambridge FC won back-to-back games in the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League after defeating Norwood Strikers and Heights FC, respectively, in Zone B contests on Saturday.
Victory saw the teams improve to six points, well ahead of Flankers FC who are on two points and Heights FC and Montego Bay Boys Club who are on one point each.
Renaldeno Wilson, Garth Bromwell and Devoie Douglas scored two games in a row as Green Pond SC beat Norwood Strikers 3-0 at the Albion playing field. The trio had scored in Green Pond’s 5-1 opening win over Montego Bay Boys Club.
Wilson gave Green Pond SC the lead in the 18th minute before Bromwell made it 2-0 just before half-time when he scored in the 43rd minute. Douglas added a third goal in the 56th minute.
At the UDC playing field, Cejay Johnson scored for Cambridge FC in the 30th minute as they extended their good start after opening the season with a 3-1 victory.
This afternoon, Lilliput Rovers and Bogue FC are to meet at Spot Valley High in a Zone A game set to start at 3:00 pm. Both teams are seeking their first win of the season.
Lilliput Rovers, semi-finalists last season, are on one point from a draw against Wadada FC, while Bogue FC lost their opening game.
