Bumper turnout for Zimi Seh Riva
Packed to capacity. That is the most comprehensive way to describe the highly anticipated Zimi Seh Riva event that was held on Boxing Day at the Tru-Juice River in Bog Walk, St Catherine.
The party was advertised to run from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, but ran beyond that duration as the thousands who showed up enjoyed an array of selections from disc jockeys: A-Team, Jugglin Masters, ZJ Romzii and Jay, Travis and Fyahman, Jamaican-born international guest Ricky Platinum.
Although no artistes were advertised to perform, dancehall acts Skeng and Govana made cameo appearances, while dancer Gabbidon ‘showed out’ briefly to demonstrate his infamous Drift routine.
Much to their delight, patrons were treated to complimentary Calico Jack beverages, as well as fresh coconut water and food, which all went over well for the cooler-endorsed event.
Though there was a bit of a fracas among unidentified patrons, which was quickly de-escalated by the DJs, as the evening matured, attendees believe they got their money’s worth.
One patron, who bought a resold ticket on the morning of the event for a whopping $30,000 — a stark contrast to the $12,000 charged for late bird tickets — said she did not regret it.
“I had a great time. I decided this morning that I wanted to join my friends and I live in the parish, so I said: ‘Why not?’ I think money comes and goes, but experiences are once in a lifetime,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
Another added that this was her final event for the year and is happy that it exceeded expectations.
“I come to Zimi every year, and it’s always a great time. It was kinda hectic getting food earlier, because there are so many people here — probably the most packed I’ve ever seen this particular event — but I had a good time,” he said.
The night was topped off with fireworks.
