Sealy manufacturer McIntosh Bedding closes operations
Manufacturer and distributor of the popular Sealy Posturepedic brand locally, McIntosh Bedding Company Limited, is now taking steps to permanently close up shop after some six decades of operations in the local market.
“After 60 years of serving the needs of our clients in Jamaica and the Caribbean, it is with deep regret that McIntosh Bedding Co Ltd must close its doors. It has been our pleasure serving Jamaica, as we focused on supplying a wide variety of quality products with an emphasis on customer service,” co-founder Donald McIntosh said in a notice of the closure shared with the media.
Briefly sharing a rationale behind the reason for closure at this time, McIntosh said that the company, despite management’s best efforts, has not been able to recover from decade-old challenges, the most recent and significant being the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I founded McIntosh Bedding Co based on a dream to give people a better way to sleep but despite our best efforts, we have been left with no choice but to say farewell. The decision was not an easy one, having had to deal with multi-lateral businesses since the early 1970s,” the co-founder said.
He used the opportunity to thank all his business partners, including four generations of staff, suppliers, customers and international partners, all of whom he said have helped to create brands that became household names over the years. McIntosh also said he was grateful for the support of his late wife, family members, customers and associates.
Efforts by the Jamaica Observer to ascertain more details from the company about the reason behind the closure proved futile as it was indicated by their public relations handlers PROComm that management did not wish to disclose much more beyond what was stated in the closure notice.
The company’s website and social media accounts, which have already been deactivated, are however clear indications that the process of closure is already underway.
