Roman extends lead in Jockey’s Championship with one race day to go
Raddesh Roman took a significant step towards claiming the 2024 Jockey’s Championship title on Thursday, December 26, riding three winners to extend his lead over rival Tevin Foster to three wins.
Going into Thursday’s racing, Roman held a slender one-win advantage over Foster at 129-128. However, with his trio of victories, Roman has strengthened his grip on the championship.
Roman won aboard Unruly Boss for owner/trainer Oral Hayden in the fourth race,
Indestructible for trainer Phillip Elliott in the fifth race, and Fearless Force for trainer Philip Feanny in the eighth race.
Foster, meanwhile, managed to secure one win aboard Storm Valley in the second race for trainer Ryan Darby, but it was not enough to prevent Roman from pulling away. With just one racing day left in the season, Roman’s lead looks increasingly formidable.
Roman was ecstatic about his performance and his chances of claiming the championship title. “It’s a very great feeling riding three winners,” Roman told the Jamaica Observer’s
The Supreme Racing Guide.
“It’s a very good feeling leading right now with one day to go. Everyone wants to win a championship title, and with the two of us battling, may the best one win,” he added.
Looking ahead to the final day of racing on Saturday, Roman expressed confidence in his mounts.
“On Saturday, I am on some very good rides, and I am just hoping that the horses come to run. I am going to do my best, and hopefully, my best is good enough to win the championship,” Roman said.
The stage is now set for a thrilling conclusion to the jockey’s championship, although Roman’s three-win cushion gives him a significant advantage. Can Foster pull off a stunning comeback, or will Roman ride off into the sunset with the championship title?
Current Jockey’s Championship Standings: Roman (132 winners) and Foster (129 winners).
The racing community will be eagerly anticipating the outcome, and fans will be on the edge of their seats as the drama unfolds on the final day of racing on Saturday, December 28.
