Janet Richards, Usain Bolt foundations bring joy to Mustard Seed Children’s home
ST JAMES, Jamaica-Janet Richards Foundation, in partnership with Usain Bolt Foundation, recently handed over air conditioning units and fans, among other items, to Mustard Seed Communities Blessed Assurance in Windsor Lodge, St James during a holiday treat.
The items are expected to make a difference in the lives of the facility’s 32 mentally and physically challenged wards and 33 workers at the home.
“We donated two portable air conditioning units, two fans along with two boxes of toiletries,” said Janet Richards, founder of the Janet Richards Foundation.
“I want to give thanks, first and foremost, to Usain Bolt and the Usain Bolt Foundation. With all the things that happened to Usain this [past] year, I said my God a wonder if he can manage it, and I spoke to Mr Nugent Walker, Usain’s manager and he said ‘Janet don’t worry man we are committed to this ‘ and of course they did, and look at what we did here,” added Richards.
The treat also included the provision of meals, gifts to each ward and worker; and a lively entertainment package.
Cornell Howell Huie, manager of the Mustard Seed Children’s Home expressed gratitude on behalf of the home.
“We are elated. Of course Janet Richards, along with Usain Bolt Foundation, has been doing this for quite sometime. And had it not been for them, maybe it wouldn’t be what it is today and so we are extremely grateful for the fact that these two foundations in, partnership are here to celebrate with the most vulnerable members of society. Our children are truly grateful and you would have seen it on their faces. They enjoyed the meals they enjoyed the gifts and we are indeed grateful,” Howell Huie said.
Richards, a retired banker, pledged her continued support for the Mustard Seed home.
Mustard Seed is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation which has been in operation since 1978.
