Strictly 2K to pay homage to Kartel, Keiva and Chromatic
Dancehall kingpin Vybz Kartel, dancer Keiva Di Diva, and the Chromatic sound will be honoured at this Saturday’s staging of the popular retro party series Strictly 2K at Mas Camp.
“It’s important we recognise the stalwarts that have contributed greatly to our culture and the entertainment industry. They have paved the way by being the best in their respective fields and arguably the world. It’s important we recognise our own,” Ibrahim Konteh, director of communications for Strictly 2K, said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday.
Strictly 2K has partnered with Boom Energy Drink to recognise the entertainers for ther contributions to the entertainment fraternity.
According to Kadeehca Henry, brand manager for Boom Energy Drink, this partnership aligns perfectly with Boom’s long-standing support for the dancehall genre.
“Boom is dancehall, and we are thrilled to partner with Strictly 2K to celebrate these trailblazers who have shaped the sound and style of Jamaican music and culture.
This initiative builds on our legacy of contributing to the growth and recognition of dancehall, both locally and internationally,” said Henry.
Promoter of Strictly 2K Shaun Chablal emphasised the significance of this initiative as the event celebrates its eighth year.
“From day one, Strictly 2K has been about celebrating the golden era of dancehall, which is the 2000s-2010s. For this milestone anniversary, we wanted to go beyond the music and find a way to honour those who have made exceptional contributions to the culture. We are excited to present our honorees with their plaques during the event as a token of appreciation for their invaluable impact,” said Chablal.
The DJs who have been commissioned to provide the musical backdrop at Strictly 2K include Johnny Kool, Chromatic Live, ZJ Chrome, and Coppershot sound.
Konteh says a great night is in store for patrons.
“It will be a great night of nostalgia, high energy, and fun. We have some of the best DJs who will unleash their musical artistry,” said Konteh.
The first staging of Strictly 2K took place in 2016 at the National Stadium.
“The event has grown from a throwback party to a music festival with some of the top dancehall artistes gracing our stage and also by serving international markets, including Miami, Atlanta, New York, Washington DC, and Canada. Locally, we have three events each year,” Konteh said.
