Montego Bay beat Vere a second time this season
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Montego Bay United beat Vere United for the second time this season, blanking the Clarendon-based club 2-0 in their second round game played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Monday evening.
Brian Brown scored his seventh goal of the season to give MBU the lead in the first half before Demario Phillips made the points safe in time added on. MBU’s eighth win of the season saw them move back into the top-three on 28 points as Vere stayed rooted in 11th place on 13 points. MBU dominated the game and should have killed off the match from the first half but Brown, Owayne Gordon and Shaniel Thomas all wasted good scoring chances.
After coming close on a few occasions, Brown finally gave MBU the lead when he was supplied with a ball over the top, ran on to it and, after getting it under control with the first touch, hit it past goalkeeper Mikhail Harrison.
After failing to connect on a few occasions, Thomas turned provider when he played the ball with his chest into the path of Phillips who beat substitute goalkeeper Shakur Adair at his near left post.
