Civilian employee of Trinidad police service face criminal charges
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – A civilian employee of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) will re-appear in a magistrate’s court on January 24 next year in connection with attempting to obtain $199,000 TT (One TT dollar = 0.16 cents US) through forged documents.
A TTPS statement said that employee, Hermatie Long, who is assigned to the Police Administrative Building, was charged by the Fraud Squad and has since appeared before Master Sookraj Gossamie at the North Court for three offences, namely forgery, uttering, and attempting to obtain the sum by false pretense.
“These charges stem from an incident reported on February 9, 2024, when Long applied for a motor vehicle loan at a commercial bank. As part of the application, Long presented several documents, including a job letter from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. These documents were initially accepted as genuine by the bank.
However, upon subsequent verification, the job letter was found to be fraudulent,” the police said in a statement.
It said that a thorough investigation led to the arrest and subsequent charges against Long and that she was granted $10,000 TT bail.
