Work under way to improve access to two St Thomas communities
THE Government is moving to restore reliable access to the communities of Windsor Forest and Hagley Gap in St Thomas through a critical road rehabilitation project.
According to minister in charge of works Robert Morgan, the road rehabilitation is a response to the challenges which face residents, especially when it rains.
“This investment in St Thomas demonstrates the Government’s continued dedication to enhancing rural infrastructure and bridging the gap for communities islandwide,” said Morgan.
“Reliable road access is a convenience and a luxury everyone deserves to have. Projects like these enable residents to build stronger connections, seize new opportunities, and drive Jamaica’s progress forward,” added Morgan.
The scope of work will include excavating damaged areas, constructing new drainage features and recreating the road embankment through the construction of the retaining walls. The project will also see a new base on the targeted sections of the corridors, followed by asphaltic concrete works.
The $30.6-million project, being undertaken through the National Works Agency (NWA), was originally scheduled to start on October 28, but faced a delay due to adverse weather condition.
