Mineola set to dominate Andrew HB Memorial Cup
The $1.01-million Andrew HB Memorial Cup is set to take place tomorrow, featuring a field of six juveniles (native-bred two-year-olds) competing over one mile (1,600m).
Despite the small field, the maiden special weight event promises to be an exciting one, with Mineola expected to dominate the field.
Here’s a look at each runner:
1. MINEOLA: (2 b f by Casual Trick – Sweet Trial) – Top pick, bred to get a distance of ground and expected to dominate the field. Mineola finished second by 6 ¾ lengths behind Kimuchi over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) on November 23, 2024. With the tongue-tie on, Mineola is expected to appreciate the distance and run away with the win.
2. ALTHIA: (2 b f by Fort Loudan – Truth is Truth) – Expected to finish second.
Althia finished second to Mr Lee on debut on November 16, finishing 17 lengths adrift over 7 furlongs (1,400m). Althia could repeat that performance here and finish second once again.
3. ATILA: (2 b f by Sunshine N Shadow – Peace by Peace) – Could be in the running for exacta money. Atila didn’t do anything on debut but has been training fairly well and could be in the running for exacta money here.
4. PRINCE KAZAIRE: (2 dk b/br c by Sensational Slam – Maggie’s Way) – This dark horse has been working fairly well. Prince Kazaire has been working fairly well for this contest and could surprise with a good run.
5. MIRACLE SELECTION: (2 b c by Midnight Hawk – Sparkling Michaela) – Least likely to win. The wrong selection by the ‘Miracle’, Miracle Selection is not expected to do well here.
6. SIMPLY ENCHANTING: (2 ch f by Soul Warrior – My Elle Belle) – Also unlikely to win. Simply Enchanting has done nothing in her four starts to date and is going to be left behind in this one.
