Woman among two killed in separate crashes in Mandeville over the weekend
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A woman is among two people who died in separate crashes in Manchester on the weekend.
The deceased woman has been identified as Kamona Forrest, 28, a resident of Virginia in Bombay district, Manchester.
Police said Forrest was a passenger in a Nissan Sunny traveling on the Fine Grass main road in north east Manchester. Reportedly, about 11:30 pm Sunday, the driver lost control and crashed into a pole and a wall. Forrest, another woman and the male driver of the car were taken to hospital where Forrest was pronounced dead while the two injured people were admitted for treatment.
The second road fatality, a motorcyclist, who police identified as Matthew Wilkie, died as a result of injuries he sustained after reportedly breaking the one-way on Caledonia Road in the vicinity of North Race Course Road. His motorcycle collided with a motor car. He was pronounced dead at the nearby Mandeville Regional Hospital Friday night.
On Sunday Observer Online reported that the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) is projecting that road fatalities will fall below 400 this year, the first time since 2019.
The ITA is projecting that up to 388 road users could be killed on the nation’s streets this year. According to ITA statistics, 440 road users were killed in 2019; 433 in 2020; 487 in 2021; 488 in 2022 and 425 in 2023.
