T&T gov’t minister dies in house fire
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire which caused the deaths of the twin republic’s junior education minister, Lisa Morris Julian and two others on Monday.
Initial reports indicate that the fire at her home in Arima, also claimed the lives of two other people, including a six-year-old child.
Trinidadian Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is among individuals who have since gone to the scene of the tragedy.
Morris Julian was the parliamentary representative for D’Abadie/O’Meara, having won the seat on a ticket of the ruling People’s National Movement (PNM) in the 2020 general elections.
She also served as the mayor of Arima between 2013 and 2020.
Media reports said Morris Julian, son and a sister were in a section of the house where they could not escape. They died there. Her husband and other children were able to make it out.
