Curfew extended in St Mary community
ST MARY, Jamaica— A curfew which was imposed in the community of Enfield, St Mary has been extended to Wednesday, December 18.
The two-day crime prevention measure was initially imposed on Saturday, December 14 and was slated to end on Monday, December 16.
The curfew was imposed following a flare up of gang related violence in the community.
According to deputy superintendent in charge of St Mary, Anthony Wallace, there has been an increase in robberies, murders and shootings.
“The curfew is a way of making the community safe and secure for the residents,” he said.
He further highlighted that the police have launched a preventive method aimed at reducing criminal activities also in the Annotto Bay area.
“We have launched the PREVENT (Partnership Reconciliation, Engagement, and Violence Elimination) programme which we will use to minimise crime in that space and build a better relationship with the community members,” he explained.
The parish has recorded 26 murders this year with Enfield accounting for nine of those incidents.
The curfew will start at 6am and end at 6pm.The boundaries affected by the curfew are: Dry River Bridge towards Enfield and Enfield main road.
