Supreme Foundation provides 100 backpacks to students of Marlie Hill Primary and Infant School
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Isaiah Laing, head of Supreme Promotions and the charitable organisation, Supreme Foundation, brought Yuletide cheer to over 70 students at Marlie Hill Primary and Infant School in rural St Catherine, earlier this week when he gifted them more than 100 backpacks.
“It was a joy giving back to these kids, Marlie Hill Primary is very dear to my heart, this is my alma mater and also the primary school for the honourable Portia Simpson Miller (former prime minister). So this is just my way of inspiring the new generation of children from this community,” Laing said.
Through the Supreme Foundation, Laing provided the backpacks to the students as well as ice cream and other treats.
“Every year, no matter what is happening, I try to do something for these students because I know that there is a need,” Laing explained.
Marlie Hill Primary and Infant is located in the cool hills of Bellfield, St Catherine. Principal, O’Niel Gayle, lauded the gesture by Mr Laing.
“At our school, we are very happy that a past student and benefactor has come back to share with us,” Gayle said. He shared that the philanthropic gesture covers at least one item that parents often worry about at the start of any school term.
“We are humbled, because not many take time out to do what Mr Laing has done; the students enjoyed their backpacks, they were treated with ice cream and patties, and this gesture helps to reduce expenditure that parents will have to find come January morning,” Gayle added. He praised the dedication of the Supreme Foundation to the needs of the school.
“Each year, Mr Laing tries to do something for the kids, last year, he invited all the students to a treat in Spanish Town, offering free rides, food and juice and they were transported to and from the venue. This year, he has returned to inspire the student population and give them something to look towards in the future,” the grateful principal said.
Marlie Hill Primary and Infant School has a student population of 74 students and employs seven trained teachers.
