WATCH: Port Maria gets clean-up ahead of Christmas
ST MARY, Jamaica – Port Maria received a clean-up this week for the Christmas season. The project was spearheaded by the St Mary Municipal Corporation.
“We saw it fit this morning to have the town clean and repainted in anticipation of the vending for the Christmas period,” Chairman of the St Mary Municipal Corporation and Mayor of Port Maria Fitzroy Wilson told Observer Online about the initiative on Sunday.
National Solid Waste Management Authority, Jamaica Fire Brigade and Jamaica Constabulary Force assisted in the clean-up effort which was well-received by the public especially the businesspersons, Wilson said.
“For the most part persons are welcoming of this initiative, they are appreciative and are saying it’s the first time this has ever happened other than when we have a flooding,” Wilson said.
The mayor added that the plan is to make the clean-up exercise a regular initiative.
“It is something that we want to do on a quarterly basis where the town is sanitised and clean so it goes well for the business community and visitors from overseas and other parishes,” he said.
