Kingston mayor expects report on alleged building breach at an Estatebridge development in 48 hours
KINGSTON, Jamaica- Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby says he expects a written report within 48 hours from the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation’s (KSAMC) chief engineering officer on the construction of an apartment complex, which the Integrity Commission (IC) says has breached building law.
“In keeping with the KSAMC’s commitment to transparency, and keeping the public informed, today I met with officers from the Building and Planning department, and have demanded a written report from the chief engineering officer, which would include all the necessary processes to be followed post approval, and the series of events leading up to the IC’s report, published on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 regarding their investigations into breach of building approval at development located at 2 Weycliffe Close, Beverly Hills, Kingston 6,” Sway said in a statement on Wednesday.
In the report tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, the KSAMC was accused of not carrying out due diligence on Estatebridge Holdings Limited development at the Beverly Hills property.
Swaby said he believes the KSAMC’s own internal review of the matter is necessary “as we seek to conduct our affairs with the utmost professionalism, transparency, honesty and integrity.”
“I want to reassure the public that after all investigations are completed, the KSAMC will take the necessary actions to ensure that the laws relating to our building approvals are strictly adhered to and enforced,” he added.
