Men fined $100,000 for using fake documents to obtain passports
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two men who pleaded guilty to the offences of making false declarations to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) and obtaining a passport by forged documents were fined a total of $100,000 each or 30 days in prison.
The judgments were handed down on Tuesday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court by Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell.
In the first case, the court heard that on August 30, Carl Downer used the name Horace Logan to apply for a passport from PICA.
Some weeks later on September 23 Rommel Tomlinson was accused of using the name Noel Phillips to obtain a passport from the immigration agency.
Investigations revealed that the names used were fake, and the men were arrested and charged.
The men pleaded guilty and were fined $50,000 for each offence.
