KSAMC vows to help make Christmas merry for the less fortunate in the city
THE Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) is seeking the support of volunteers in helping to bring the joy of Christmas to those less fortunate throughout the municipality.
Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby made the plea at a media briefing last Thursday as he outlined some of the activities the corporation will be undertaking during the festive season.
“If you wish to contribute or get involved, we will welcome you on board. As we celebrate, let us not forget the true spirit of Christmas — giving to those in need. We encourage everyone to find ways to help the less fortunate this season. Whether by donating food, clothing, or your time, every act of kindness makes a difference.
“Together, we can ensure that the season is brighter for everyone in our city. Let us join hands and make this Christmas one of compassion, unity, and goodwill in Kingston,” said Swaby.
He told the media briefing that during the Christmas period, in keeping with the corporation’s dedication to fostering community spirit and caring for the most vulnerable, councillors and staff of the KSAMC will come together to visit and serve the residents of the Marie Atkins Night Shelter, the Desmond McKenzie Transitional Centre, and the Denham Town Golden Age Home.
According to Swaby, on New Year’s Day meals and entertainment will be provided at St William Grant Park for members of the homeless community.
He said the highlight of the activities, as the KSAMC seeks to make downtown Kingston, “a vibrant and inclusive space during the holiday season,” is the annual tree lighting ceremony at St William Grant Park on December 12 starting at 6:30 pm.
“These activities demonstrate the KSAMC’s commitment to creating a season of togetherness, generosity, and hope for all citizens. We encourage everyone to participate and support these events and activities as we continue to build a stronger and more united Kingston,” said Swaby.
