Gov’t dental professionals get salary increases for Christmas
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Union of Clerical and Administrative Employees (UCASE) says it has been informed that dental surgeons employed by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the regional health authorities will see the implementation of the salaries and fringe benefits packages this month.
The union said on Monday that it was also advised by the Ministry of Finance that all dental surgeons will be paid outstanding retroactive payments.
The compensation package for the professionals was signed off by former Minister of Finance Dr Nigel Clarke, on October 8, 2024.
UCASE President, Vincent Morrison has expressed appreciation to the finance ministry for its decision in paying the doctors who were becoming restive over the delay in payment.
Morrison had issued a strongly worded letter to Minister of Finance and the Public Service Fayval Williams on November 27, demanding the immediate payment of the retroactive salaries.
“This matter should be treated with the highest priority and we expect the necessary steps to be taken to resolve it promptly,” he said.
The win for dental professionals comes amidst calls for patience from the government as other medical professionals express dissatisfaction with salaries.
