Caribbean champs Cavalier return to JPL with big win, MoBay move up to 3rd

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Freshly minted Concacaf Caribbean club champions Cavalier SC returned to the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday with a big 5-1 win over Molynes United at Sabina Park.

Cavalier, which snapped a two-game winless run with the victory, are now in sixth place on 19 points from 10 games.

They took the lead through Richard King in the 14th minute. Alexavier Gooden added a second goal in the 34th minute and Shaquile Stein a third in the 51st minute to give the defending JPL champions a 3-0 lead.

Shamario Dennis scored for Molynes United in the 68th minute but two late goals from substitutes Orlando Russell in the 80th minute and Odane Wilberforce in the 82nd minutes rounded out the win for Cavalier.

Meanwhile, Waterhouse FC outscored Dunbeholden FC 3-2 in the first game of a double header at a muddy Stadium East and are tied on points with leaders Mt Pleasant FA.

Waterhouse won for the first time in four games, holding off Dunbeholden who had come from behind to take the lead.

Javane Bryan of Waterhouse opened the scoring in the 36th minute but Chantamoi Taylor equalised for Dunbeholden on the stroke of half time. Dunbeholden then took the lead in the 49th minute through Ricardo Thomas.

Andre Fletcher brought Waterhouse back level in the 59th minute before Leonardo Jibbison, who replaced Martin Davis in the second half, scored the winner in the 81st minute.

In the meantime, Montego Bay United moved up to third after beating Tivoli Gardens 4-2 in the second game.

Two defenders scored in the second half for Montego Bay to beat Tivoli who had rallied twice with goals from Nickalia Fuller to make the score 2-2 at half time as the winners ended a two-game winless skid.
The game started at a frenetic pace with four goals in the first 32 minutes. Shaneil Thomas fired Montego Bay into the lead in the 18th minute but Fuller equalised three minutes later.

Brian Brown finished off a good team move when he restored the visitors’ lead in the 25th minute but Fuller scored again in the 32nd minute, this time from the penalty spot to tie up the scores.

Central defender Odaine Nish headed home a corner in the 50th minute to give Montego Bay United the lead again and wingback Deverow McKenzie dribbled from his own half to beat the Tivoli Gardens goalkeeper Nicholas Clarke at his near left post two minutes into time added.

Portmore United drew their third consecutive game as they played out a 1-1 draw against Racing United in a Portmore derby at Ferdie Neita Park.

Both goals came early in the game with Rashaun Small giving Portmore United the lead in the 12th minute and Giovanni Cunningham equalising for Racing in the 18th minute.

Vere United snapped a seven-game winless run when Robino Gordon scored a late second half double as they came from a goal down to beat Chapelton Maroons in a Clarendon derby. The win took Vere United from 12th to ninth place, giving them some space from the relegation zone.

Alwayne Bryan gave Chapelton the lead in the 27th minute but Gordon equalised in the 75th minute and then scored the winner five minutes into time added.
