Mona High win first Walker Cup title
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Mona High won their first ISSA/Digicel Walker Cup title on Friday after they came from a goal down to beat seven-time winners Excelsior High 4-1 in the final played at the National Stadium.
KShaine Gordon scored a second half double to lead last season’s first time Manning Cup champions past an Excelsior team that wasted three gilt- edged scoring chances in the first half.
Damarly Williams gave Excelsior High the lead in the 12th minute and they looked set to take the game away from Mona High as they created a number of good chances.
Carlton Brown, however, equalised for Mona High in the 34th minute as the teams went to the half time break level at 1-1.
It was all Mona High in the second half as Gordon gave them the lead in the 52nd minute, Marlon Cunningham made it 3-1 in the 55th minute before Gordon put the game out of reach for Excelsior High in the 76th minute.
