‘Curvy Diva’ maintains innocence in landlord dispute, awaits day in court
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Media personality Yanique Barrett, more popularly known as the “Curvy Diva” has responded to reports that she has been slapped with charges of simple larceny, housebreaking, and malicious destruction of property.
In a statement released via her Instagram account on Friday, the Curvy Diva confirmed the reports and expressed that while she has been advised by her legal counsel not to discuss the matter, the charges stem from an incident involving her former landlord at the premises on which she previously operated her popular eatery, Dining with Curvy.
Reports indicate that the media personality and restaurateur allegedly gained access to the property on Dunrobin Avenue in July 2023 accompanied by a locksmith. The owner of the property told the court that he returned to his establishment to find the locks severed and furniture and other items missing. It is also alleged that damage was done to the building.
Announcing that she will get her day in court, the Curvy Diva maintained her innocence declaring that the “truth will prevail”.
“I am aware that many of you may have heard the recent news. Yesterday, I was formally charged. On the advice of my legal counsel, I am unable to discuss the details of the matter at this time. However, I want to assure you that I will have my day in court, where the truth will prevail,” her statement read. “I maintain my innocence regarding these baseless accusations. Unfortunately, my former landlord, where I previously operated my restaurant on Dunrobin, is at the centre of this unwarranted situation.”
“I will provide further updates as the legal process unfolds,” she ended the statement. Barrett is scheduled to make another appearance in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday, December 12.
