D Major tops New York Reggae chart with Caravan of Love
Singer D Major recently topped the Foundation Radio Network (New York) Reggae chart with his faithful interpretation of the song Caravan of Love.
Originally recorded by Isley-Jasper-Isley, the second half of the Isley Brothers’ 3 + 3 line-up of the 1970s, the song topped Billboard’s R&B Soul Singles chart and reached #51 on the Hot 100 chart.
D Major said he had always been a fan of the song.
“One day I was at Penthouse studio and I heard the instrumental. They were going through a bunch of tracks and the idea hit me. This was around five years ago. I am a fan of the song, and I’ve always been drawn to that type of music,” D Major told the Jamaica Observer.
This isn’t the first #1 song outside of Jamaica for D Major.
“I have had #1 songs in different territories. It’s beautiful how music transcends language barriers,” he said, while pointing out that songs including That’s What Love’s About, Real Know Real, and Girl of My Dreams topped charts outside of Jamaica.
Caravan of Love is featured on D Major’s EP Morning Prayer, which was released in March. The EP also has a collaboration with Usain Bolt titled Unstoppable, as well as the tracks Alpha and Omega, 10 Outta 10, and I Believe.
His previous covers that became hits include Woman (originally recorded by John Lennon) and Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me.
