Miztrizz moves to the dancehall beat, singer prepares debut EP with Jamaican producer
A few months ago, when she learnt that she was nominated for Canada’s Reggae North Music Awards in the category Top Reggae Song of the Year (Female) for the song ‘Let Me Know’, Miztrizz was over the moon.
“Being nominated for the Reggae North Music Award brought me a feeling of personal achievement, and it gave me the encouragement to push further in the pursuit of my goals. Working with industry-renowned international producers has also highlighted my ability to expand my portfolio of work to greater heights,” Miztrizz told Observer Online recently.
While she did not end up winning the award, Miztrizz, said “I was very pleased to have learned of the nomination, it did come as a surprise to me as I know there are so many artistes striving for the same recognition. Personally, it has assured me that the journey that I am on is with a purpose. And I look forward to achieving more prestigious recognition.
Born in Canada to a Jamaican father, Miztrizz has been pursuing music professionally for the past four years but she was first bitten by the musical bug at the age of eight.
“My musical journey started at a young age of about eight years old when I used to sing in the choir and later on took the stage singing for theater concerts in high school. Sometimes I would venture into the dance scene but singing has always been my passion,” she shared.
Known for doing mostly reggae songs, she has decided to flex her musical artistry by venturing into dancehall territory with her latest single Wine and Jiggle, which was produced by Jamaica-based producer Wai Fusion.
“I’ve always had a fondness for dancehall music; however, it initiated from when I used to do dance choreography at parties when I used to follow a Sound Crew.
I feel that my musical journey has been with me my whole life. So, I have been through a lot of transitions and growth when it comes to my music style and expression. Over time I have rediscovered my true passion for making music and connecting with that inner essence. I find the journey to be very fulfilling and look forward to the greatness I see manifesting in it for me,” Miztrizz whose real name is Tiffanie Francis disclosed.
And what was it that inspired Wine and Jiggle?
“As I’m known primarily for doing reggae songs that are typically about the topic of love and relationships, I felt that I hadn’t really enabled my listeners to experience a song that speaks of the more intimate parts of relationships. So as soon as I heard this rhythm produced by Wai Fuzion, it inspired me to create a song that listeners could connect to on that level,” she said.
Miztrizz is in full production mode for her upcoming EP which she says will be released early next year.
“The EP will be co-produced with Wai Fuzion and myself; it will be likely a collection of roughly seven songs. It will highlight human experiences in terms of intimacy and relationships as well.” she confided, “as it is still in the works, a set title has not been released as yet, and collaborations with other notable artists are in the works.”
