Malang scores high marks
Prerana Singh, founder of the Mudra Art Group, is pleased with the success of this year’s staging of Malang.
“India is known for its rich culture, and we’re very rich in the performing arts, as well. I want patrons to see how we contribute to the new generation, and (how) we’re still keeping our performing arts culture alive and taking it to another standard. It was blockbuster this year. For both days, the show was packed,” Singh told the Jamaica Observer.
Malang was held November 9-10 at Phillip Sherlock Centre for the Creatuve Arts at The University of the West Indies, Mona.
It featured some 35 pieces over three hours from a total of 65 dancers.
Singh further said that the programme showcased the versatility of the Indian culture as her team pulled out all the stops to ensure seamless performances.
“For me, the highlight of the show was seeing various Indian dance genres; classical, Bollywood, folk, fusion, and more, in one show or platform,” she said.
As much as she enjoyed the show, the organiser noted that patrons have also lauded the event.
“The show is a talk of the town. It grabbed people’s attention… both days were full. Hence, for patrons it was also a success,” she said.
Proceeds from the shows went to Sanatan Dharma Mandir — a Hindu temple on Hagley Park Road in the Corporate Area.
The next staging will be in 2026.
