Education Ministry saddened by death of Lennon High students in crash, monitoring other injured students
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Education says it is deeply saddened by the tragic motor vehicle crash involving several students in Clarendon, two of which succumbed to their injuries.
The two students who died attended Lennon High School. The conditions of several other students —one of them critical— are now being monitored, the ministry said in a statement shortly after the incident on Monday.
“One student is said to be in critical condition. We are fervently praying for their full recovery and will continue to provide support to the families as they navigate this challenging period,” the ministry said.
In the meantime, the ministry said it has activated its trauma and grief counselling teams to provide immediate support to the affected families, students and staff at all institutions.
“Our hearts and prayers are with their families, friends, and the entire Lennon High School community during this time of unimaginable grief,” it said.
In light of this tragic incident, the education ministry is strongly urging parents and guardians to ensure their children use reputable and safe transportation services. It also encouraged transportation providers to adhere to all safety standards and regulations to prevent such devastating occurrences.
In addition, the ministry strongly discouraged sharing sensitive images and videos of the scene out of respect for the students and their families.
