Cops probe massive cocaine find at Kingston airport
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police have launched an investigation following a major cocaine find at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Friday.
The drugs were seized following a collaboration between the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) and the Jamaica Customs Agency.
No arrests were made in connection with the seizure, Observer Online understands.
It was reported that around 10:00 am, the agencies intercepted a shipment of cocaine at the Amerijet warehouse at the airport.
Investigators determined that the seizure consisted of 78 parcels weighing approximately 84.2 kilograms (185.24 pounds) of a white powdery substance resembling cocaine.
The cocaine was concealed in 13 boxes of 2kg Maggie seasoning, which were part of a larger shipment that included wines and beers.
The shipment, which was intended for an address in Miami, Florida, was transported from the warehouse to FNID headquarters for further investigation.
Head of FNID, Acting Senior Superintendent Samuel Blake, is reassuring the public that his division will continue to collaborate with key partners as they continue to focus on individuals and groups that pose the greatest threat to violence reduction in Jamaica by their involvement in the illicit firearms and narcotics trade.
