If Walls Could Talk: Seasonal Finds
‘Tis the season for hosting friends and family, or simply relaxing at home with loved ones. If you grew up in a traditional Jamaican home, you may have memories of the annual “spruce up”. New curtains, bedding, dinnerware and accessories make their debut, and furniture gets rearranged or new pieces are added to accommodate the season’s festivities. This year will be no different, so we curated a few stylish additions from our store, Home Showhouse, that are perfect for the season.
Get cosy
It’s sweater season, and the interior design world has taken this quite literally. Corduroy, bouclé and velvet upholstery are the materials of choice for sectionals and accent chairs. We selected the Sage Corduroy Loveseat and matching ottoman as the perfect oversized chair for a good snuggle. A velvet accent chair, like The Augustine Swivel in deep jewelled tones, elevates any living room with its channelled tufting and low profile.
Bouclé upholstery may feel like a new trend, but is in fact a resurgence of the fabric that was made popular in the 1940s by Saarinen’s famous womb chair and the popular tweed fabric clothing of that era. Its soft texture makes it ideal for a sectional like the modular bouclé piece inspired by the Bellini Bubble Sofa, which is also on trend for 2024.
If you have your favourite streaming service ready for movie nights, you will need an oversized piece like the Chloe Media Lounger which can hold up to three people plus popcorn.
A bonus tip is to ensure you select performance fabric for lighter-coloured upholstered furniture.
Pour a glass
While you’re waiting for the ham in the oven, you may want to pour yourself a glass of wine from the Island Bar cart, which incorporates rattan for a tropical modern feel, or the sleek walnut bar cart for a more sober aesthetic. Look for mobile pieces that can be utilised throughout your home as well as outdoors.
Dine in style
One room that’s sure to get plenty of usage this season is the dining room. This is an opportunity to show off your impeccable taste. Choose a server that can double as a conversation piece, like the 3D Sideboard in oak. If you’re not sure you want to commit to dining room furniture. Invest in a dresser that can double as a sideboard to store plates, napkins, utensils and placemats during the season. After the holidays, you can move it to a bedroom of your choice. We love a good functional yet decorative piece like the Geometric Dresser we selected. Top off the dining room makeover with the Aurora Swivel chair. Place one at each end of the dining table for a sophisticated look. We especially love the gold tiger-inspired abstract print for the season. The kitchen is where most of the activity will be this holiday, so we recommend adding a bright-coloured counter stool like the Red & Gold Stool also from Home Showhouse.
Light it up
What is the holiday season without lighting? While it doesn’t seem like an obvious choice for a seasonal spruce up, swapping out your regular lighting for decorative ones like the Walnut Baum Chandelier and the leather-wrapped Cullen Pendant will add just the right amount of flair to your space.
Accessorise
Accessories complete your décor and tie everything together. Go for throw pillows in seasonal colours and candle holders for your favourite scented candles. We selected brass tapered candle sticks and red marble candle holders to adorn your coffee or entrance table. Add a few books, like the Jamaica Vibes coffee table book and style to perfection.
Naturally, we would never curate these amazing finds without telling you where to shop. You can find all these pieces at Home Showhouse this season via www.ifwallscouldtalkja.com/shop-home-showhouse.
