Tiffany Blu edges out rivals in thrilling finish
In an exciting finish, Tiffany Blu, ridden by jockey Raddesh Roman, surged past rivals in the closing stages of the race to claim the $1.1-million Jamaica Jockey’s Agent Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
The six-furlong (1,200m) event got off to a blistering start, with Smart Trick (Tevin Foster) taking the early lead. Tiffany Blu broke well, settling into second place, while Roman carefully positioned his mount to make a strategic move.
As the field approached the half-mile turn (800m), Roman cleverly held Tiffany Blu back, allowing Titan Tempo (Robert Halledeen) and Catalina Princess (Shane Ellis) to go by. However, Tiffany Blu was far from out of contention.
Roman’s tactical move paid off as he guided Tiffany Blu along the inside rails, cutting the turn and positioning his mount for a thrilling finish. When all seemed lost at the furlong pole, Roman made a bold switch to mid-track, and Tiffany Blu suddenly found an extra gear.
In a stunning comeback, Tiffany Blu caught Smart Trick close to the wire, crossing the finish line a length ahead of the runner-up. Titan Tempo finished third, with a respectable time of 1:14.0.
It was the second winner on the card for Roman, who had earlier won the fourth race aboard Storm Valley for trainer Marlon Pusey.
Racing continues on Saturday with the third running of the US$250,000 Mouttet Mile.
