Smart Trick the wise choice for Jamaica Jockey’s Agent Trophy
The stage is set for another feature race showdown at Caymanas Park today, as the Anthony Nunes-conditioned Smart Trick looks to take top honours in the $1.1-million Jamaica Jockey’s Agent Trophy.
The Restricted Allowance contest, which features three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maidens), will be run over six furlongs (1,200m). This distance is expected to play to Smart Trick’s strengths, making him the prime candidate for victory.
Smart Trick has been a model of consistency this season, with a record of one win, two second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes from eight starts. His most recent outing last Saturday saw him finish second to stablemate Battle Angel over seven furlongs (1,400m), leading for most of the way before being passed close to the wire. Smart Trick lost by a length and a half.
With the distance reduced to six furlongs, Smart Trick is poised to make the most of this opportunity and secure a winning effort. He is undoubtedly the horse to beat in this contest with Tevin Foster aboard.
The contest is positioned as the ninth event on the 10-race card with a post time of 4:20 pm, with the first race at 11:20 am.
While Smart Trick appears to be the horse to beat in the Jamaica Jockey’s Agent Trophy, one rival could potentially upset his victory — Titan Tempo. This three-year-old American-bred colt, trained by the renowned Philip Feanny and ridden by Robert Halledeen, boasts impressive credentials.
Returning from a 105-day break, Titan Tempo will look to recapture his form. His last outing on August 17 saw him finish third by one and a half lengths behind Rosetta and Brenda Boy over one mile (1,600m). However, with his performance on July 8, where he finished two and a quarter lengths behind Bold Move at this very distance, Titan Tempo should have no issue with the six-furlong trip.
Expected to run well, Titan Tempo will undoubtedly push Smart Trick to his limits. Will he be able to overcome the favourite and claim victory? The stage is set for an keen showdown.
Nothing much can be said for the remaining runners in the 11-horse field.
Small Boss, Oil Machine, First Offense, Tiffany Blu, Rack Dem, and Bushfire have no chances of winning this race, while, Himaya, First Grandson, and Catalina Princess should battle it out for the minor placings.
